How do I set up a file for a double-sided sticker?

Make artwork for both sides, often with the back as a mirror image of the front, and use the same cutline for both. Put each side on its own labelled layer and save as PDF or AI.

File setup for double-sided stickers

A double-sided sticker is made of two prints mounted together, one of them printed in reverse, so the design reads correctly from both sides of glass or another transparent surface. That's why you need artwork for both sides.

How to set up your file

  • Design both sides: make artwork for the front and for the back. The back is often a mirror image of the front.

  • Same cutline: both sides must share the same cutline so they line up.

  • Layers: put the front and back designs on separate layers.

  • Names: label each layer so it's clear which side it is.

  • Save: save as PDF or AI with the layers and names intact.

When to choose double-sided

Choose double-sided when the design needs to be seen from both sides, for example on a shop window. If it only needs to be read from outside, a Front Adhesive Sticker is enough. Read more in A Quick Guide to Front Adhesive Stickers, see accepted file types and window stickers.
