Can you put floor stickers over tile?

Yes, if the tile is smooth and clean. Textured tiles may not give the adhesive a good bond, and dust or water getting in at the edges can weaken it. See Floor Stickers.

Applying floor stickers over tile

You can apply floor stickers over tile as long as the surface is smooth and clean. Floor stickers stick best to smooth, flat floors such as tile, sealed concrete, laminate and vinyl flooring.

What can weaken the bond

  • Textured tiles, which may not give the adhesive enough contact

  • Dust, dirt or grease on the surface

  • Water or dust getting in at the edges

Preparing the tile

  • Clean the tile well to remove dust, dirt and grease

  • Let it dry completely

  • For textured tiles, a floor primer or sealant can give a smoother surface and a better bond

Applying

Press the sticker down firmly from the centre and out toward the edges to remove air bubbles. A squeegee helps. Step-by-step instructions are in How do you apply vinyl floor stickers?
