Which surfaces work best for Vinyl Transfers?

Smooth, flat and clean surfaces such as glass, metal and plastic. Vinyl Transfers stick less well to rough or textured surfaces, and on painted walls or wallpaper they can pull off paint when removed.

Keep it smooth

Vinyl Transfers work best on surfaces that are flat, smooth and stable, such as storefront windows and doors. Glass is a good example: the design sits flat and clean.

Surfaces that work well

  • Glass, such as windows and storefronts (see window stickers)

  • Metal

  • Plastic

These are stable and easy to clean, which gives both a clean look and a safer removal.

Surfaces to be careful with

  • Rough or textured surfaces: small gaps and uneven areas reduce how well the vinyl sticks, especially for fine details and thin lines.

  • Painted walls and wallpaper: they may feel smooth, and the transfer may stick at first, but removing it later can damage the surface or pull off paint. For walls, see wall stickers.

Clean before you apply

Dust, grease and moisture keep the adhesive from bonding. Wipe the surface and let it dry before applying.
